Knox Box Information

The Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department utilizes the Knox Box rapid entry system.

A Knox Box is a small, safe-like, box that attaches to the business or home. A key(s) is placed inside the box and locked by the Fire Department. Key boxes are only accessible by Fire Department personnel, by a special key that the Fire Department carries securely on their response vehicles, not by police or other first responders.

Frequently, we are faced with the decision to either wait for a keyholder or to forcefully break into a building. If the decision is made to use forcible entry, this can delay our response and cost you hundreds of dollars in damage. The Knox-Box rapid entry system allows us to immediately gain entry to your home or business without delay (using your key) and causing no damage.

  • If you live alone and experience a medical emergency and are unable to get to your door, the Knox Box rapid entry system could save your life.
  • If you have a fire alarm the Knox Box rapid entry system should be a high priority. Why pay for an early fire detection system and then have the fire department with no way to enter your home or building?
  • Knox Boxes allow businesses to prevent or reduce damage to their structure by Fire Department personnel during calls for service by providing a means for Fire Department personnel to access secure areas quickly.
  • Knox Box also offers gate key switches that utilize the same Fire Department Key.

For more information and instructions on obtaining a Knox Box, please contact Round Mountain VFD at 830.825.3200 or email knoxbox@rmvfd.org.
